My Reaction When Being Taught Long Division in Elementary School

Teacher: All right everyone, now that you all seem to have grasped division, we are going to move forward with long division. Now, if something doesn’t divide equally, instead of using remainders we’ll use the decimal point. Let me show you on the board.
Me: I’m sorry, hold on for one second, Mrs. Neely. What’s wrong with remainders?
Teacher: Well, with the decimal point we’re able to get a more accurate answer because we can carry on beyond just the left over numbers in the remainder.
Me: So why didn’t we start with the decimal point?
Teacher: Well, we started with remainders so that you could become comfortable with the idea of dividing.
Me: So, you’re saying that you spent valuble class time teaching us something that has no practical application in real life? Are there other things that you’ve taught us that won’t be used?
Teacher: Ramsey, it’s just division. Think of it like money. You have dollars and then you have cents. Cents are after the-
Ramsey: What about cursive?! We spent a day on each letter! That’s a month and a half of my life that I’ll never get back! Am I ever going to use that again?
(A time machine appears suddenly.)
Ramsey from the Future: No. You will never use cursive again.
